What is the difference between the printer and the printer?

Due to the technical progress in the arsenal of man a lot of technical devices appeared, which greatly simplify his life. Some, such as multifunction devices, even combine the functions of several devices, which are particularly popular with modern and always busy people. However, despite this, many still prefer to purchase office equipment separately.

Differences between the printer and the MFP

Printers and multifunction devices can be used both for servicing the needs of large office teams and for home use. There is a huge selection of models from different manufacturers, differing in technical characteristics, dimensions and price.

Functional MFP

The abbreviation "MFP" stands for a multifunctional device that combines the functions of a scanner, printer, copier and fax. The simplest models combine only 2 functions, while the more expensive devices support all of the above, and even more.

Among themselves, multifunctional devices are divided into laser, inkjet and LED. They can print images in color and black and white shades.

The main advantages of using include:

  1. Compactness. Small-sized devices are conveniently placed on desktops near personal computers.
  2. Efficiency. One toner cartridge is enough for one laser MFP.
  3. Cost Compared with the printer, the MFP is much more expensive, but if you compare its price with the cost of the devices combined in it, the benefit is obvious.

Among the characteristic drawbacks of multi-functional devices are:

  • slow copying;
  • the failure of one component entails the failure of the remaining nodes.

Printer functionality

Printers have long been known to the world as devices with which you can print text documents, photographs, advertising business cards and other paper products. In addition, there are devices that can create three-dimensional models, print decorations for cakes and pastries, apply images to fabrics, etc.

By way of printing devices are divided into color and black and white. According to the method of applying ink prints on paper, inkjet, laser, thermo-sublimation and other types are distinguished.

Advantages of use include:

  • fast printing;
  • ease of use and maintenance;
  • low power consumption;
  • the possibility of two-sided printing in some models;
  • low noise during operation;
  • compactness.

Among the minuses emit:

  • slight radiation that comes from laser devices;
  • the high cost of some consumables;
  • the possibility of reducing print quality, if the paint ends.

Fundamental difference

The main difference between the MFP and the printer is that the former can not only print texts or images. Multifunction devices can also scan, otkserit and receive (send) a fax. The printer can only transfer the image from a computer or flash drive to paper. Besides:

  • Printers are in most cases equipped with several paper feed points, while their opponents have one;
  • if we talk about the speed of processing print jobs from a computer, then at the MFP it is much lower;
  • Printer repair is much cheaper than repairing a device that combines many functions.

Those who want to acquire appliances for the home need to decide exactly what functions will be assigned to it. For a rare print photo or text is quite suitable jet model. For students of schoolchildren or students will be more useful MFP.
