The composition of the floorboard

Before buying a parquet board, you need to find out what it is made of. This is an important feature that will help you choose the right product for your room. If you choose a product that is not suitable for the room, it will not last long.

The composition of the floorboard

Parquet board consists of three layers, but if you take into account the covering layer (oil or varnish), 4 layers are obtained.

Top layer - wood material of valuable species. For example:

  1. Clear.
  2. Beech.
  3. Oak.

The thickness of the upper layer is from 0.05 to 0.6 mm. But if you choose the last value (0.6 mm), the price of the structure will be high. The first (0.05) is also very rare, because it is too thin (we are talking about microns, not even millimeters). The surface layers are processed in production, since the most important parameter of this layer is a beautiful appearance. It is bleached, tinted, varnished, primed.

The middle layer is conifers (pine and spruce). The thickness of the layer is up to 1 cm. Sometimes, for the middle layer other types of wood are used (most often, growing in the south) if the parquet is made in the southern territory.

Attention! The middle layer is considered the most important part of the product, since strength and durability depend on it. It makes a cut connecting the panels. It is made in the form of locks or dowels.

The third layer is made of whole panels of conifers. The thickness of the layer is up to 0.3 cm. It is also responsible for strength, but at the same time its main functions are to protect the main layer from moisture and to prevent friction of the parquet on the floor base.

What are the differences in composition

To determine the type of product, three names were created, which depend on the design of the base. Among them:

  1. PD-1. The base is single-layer and rack. The shape is rectangular.
  2. PD-2. The base is also rack, but goes along the entire axis of the panels.
  3. PD-3. Made of two rack layers. They are glued together.

But now it is customary to split the parquet according to the number of dies. For example:

  1. Single layer parquet. The top layer is made of basic elements (dies).
  2. Two-layer. The cheek has two dies. Their size can be different, and is chosen, breaking away from the characteristics of the room.
  3. Three layer. It is made of three dice. The material of their manufacture may be different. Due to this, a wide variety in colors appears, which gives the materials originality.

How to choose a parquet board by composition

The choice of boards depends on the room and some other characteristics. For example:

  1. If the parquet is laid in the bathroom, in the kitchen or in another room with high humidity, it is better to stop on the product, which consists of coniferous wood. They are well protected from moisture.
  2. For rooms with high traffic (corridor, living room), it is better to choose a thick, three-layer parquet. If you choose too thin, the service life will be lower (from constant walking on the surface, thin parquet breaks). It is also recommended to stay on conifers, as they are weaker in defects.
  3. For rooms with low traffic (bedroom, rooms), it is better to choose two-layer or single-layer boards. They do not differ in good durability, but the product is flexible, it is easier to assemble and process (cut off excess).

Coniferous wood is most often used as the composition of the boards, since it is durable and can withstand moisture.
