Floor insulation under linoleum on a concrete floor

The concrete floor itself is cold. Linoleum, which is laid on it, should be insulated. For this purpose, there are a number of special materials and methods.

What type of insulation to choose for linoleum on a concrete floor

What to put under linoleum on a concrete floor? When choosing a material, it is necessary to rely on the type of linoleum, the characteristics of the insulation and material capabilities. But you also need to choose a substrate. It is located between the canvas and the insulation. The modern market offers the following varieties of substrates:

  1. Roll cork (this is crushed bark of cork oak, pressed. It is elastic, protects against fungus and mold, has good thermal insulation).
  2. Jute (natural jute fibers are punctured with a needle and rolled on rollers at high t0. It has fire resistance and resistance to the formation of fungus).
  3. Flaxseed (natural linen is punched with a double needle, followed by impregnation. It has fire resistance and protects against mold).

The following insulation materials are suitable for concrete floors:

  • penoplex (differs in a long term of operation and durability. It is easy to stack. Due to its small thickness, it can be cut with a simple knife);
  • Isolon (another name: polyethylene foam. It is distinguished by excellent qualities, among which: waterproofing, environmental friendliness, thermal insulation, wear resistance and vapor barrier. Very popular because of the affordable price).

Floor insulation under linoleum on a concrete floor can be done like this. Thanks to modern technology, the “Underfloor heating” systems were released. They warm the room well. Their installation should be carried out by a specialist familiar with safety procedures. The cost of the system is much higher than conventional materials, but the result exceeds all expectations. Among the most popular:

  1. Infrared (film. It takes up little space. Maintains a comfortable temperature in the room).
  2. Water.
  3. Cable.
  4. Thermomats.

What tools will be required

For high-quality assembly of materials, it is necessary to prepare the following tools:

  • a substrate;
  • insulation;
  • Fiberboard, plywood;
  • construction tape;
  • polyethylene;
  • screwdriver;
  • jigsaw;
  • knife;
  • scissors;
  • glue;
  • self-tapping screws.

How to put the material

In order to carry out the work efficiently, the following actions need to be taken:

  1. It is necessary to inspect, level and clean the floor.
  2. Set the substrate (the height is selected so that the door opens and closes freely).
  3. Isolon or penoplex spreads (all joints are connected with adhesive tape).
  4. Sheets of plywood or fiberboard are laid (fastened with self-tapping screws. Fiberboard must be waterproofed. Therefore, a plastic film is laid under it, and the material is primed. Without these measures, the fiberboard can swell).
  5. Above is the installation of linoleum.

Important!So that water does not get inside the canvas, a rectangular baseboard is selected.
